Following Newcastle's successful Year of Exercise and Sport 2006 initiative, the City Council is following this up with another exciting innovative scheme aimed at improving the health of the City's residents.

Everyday we read or hear in the media the growing levels of physical inactivity and increasing problems of obesity particularly involving children and you people.  Fusion will bring together agencies from the public sector and voluntary sector to combat these problems by offering free sport, exercise and physical opportunities between the ages of 5 to 18 years of age.

We know the benefits an active lifestyle will bring:

  • Improved energy levels
  • A healthier body looks and feels better
  • Better sports performance
  • increased overall fitness

Through a whole series of Fusion School Roadshows every child will be informed of the Fusion initiative and the benefits and opportunities available to them.

Each child and young person will be given a Fusion activity card which will allow them to attend free Fusion sessions at any of the participating activity centres and swimming pools.

Fusion is also looking to find new talent and point promising athletes in the right direction.  As we head towards 2012 and the London Olympics, there is still time to discover budding male and female athletes who live in Newcastle and possible assist them on their path to elite competition!
